Signature HealthCARE of Erin elders Bertha Hodges, Don Weaver, and Annie James have been named winners in Reflect N Us art competition, a multi-state art gallery for nursing home residents to showcase their creative talents.
Reflect N Us displays artwork of elders online, allowing visitors to the site to vote on their favorite piece. Artwork is categorized by medium and includes oil and water color paintings, charcoal, ink, chalk, pencil, and clay.
The gallery also features other creations by nursing home residents, including quilts, jewelry, writing, and more.
Reflect N Us is organized by Louisville, Kentucky-based Signature HealthCARE, which operates Signature HealthCARE of Erin. More than 620 works from nursing home residents in ten states were submitted for this year’s competition.
Hodges was named overall runner-up in the contest, Weaver was named category winner for painting and James was named category winner for sewing/quilting.
“It is a wonderful honor to have my work chosen top among all the entries,” said Hodges.
Family, friends, and community members were welcomed to a gallery showing last month to kick off the contest.
“What an honor for one of our own to be chosen as this year’s Reflect N Us winner,” said Barry Cotton, the nursing home’s administrator/CEO. “There’s so much talent among our residents. We want to give them an outlet to be recognized and to share that talent with others and the Reflect N Us program is a perfect opportunity. We’re already looking forward to next year!
